How it works

no. 9

From a change in the folder to the page on the site.

  1. Folder: Google Docs, Word files, photos and folders.
  2. Sync: once a minute, Foldocs lists the folder's names, dates and descriptions. Only files that changed are downloaded.
  3. Cache: a changed document is exported as HTML and rebuilt from a short list of allowed elements; its images are made in five sizes.
  4. Build: the whole site is written as plain files, with a feed and a sitemap. Only what changed is rewritten.
  5. Site: any web server can serve it; Foldocs includes a small one in a container.

There is no database: the folder is the source, and the site is a copy of it.

To run it yourself, see Put it online. The code is open source.
